In 2007, AAUW Prescott established an endowed scholarship through the Yavapai College Foundation to be used for childcare tuition for the children of enrolled students at Yavapai College. Each year several scholarships are awarded that provide tuition assistance to women students so that they can have childcare on campus while they are pursuing their education at Yavapai College. The scholarship is named for Mary Alice Moulton, a former AAUW Prescott President. Mary Alice died suddenly in 2004. From the time she joined AAUW in 1994, she was a tireless advocate for a Childcare course at Yavapai College and for the creation of an early childhood center, which eventually resulted in the building of the Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center, which opened in 2007. Because of her passion for the center and hard work in helping plan the center, the Prescott Branch of AAUW decided to name the scholarship in her honor.
The Mary Alice Moulton Scholarship Fund presently has distributed $25,242 (December 2023). The return on investments and interest income has enabled the fund to award scholarships to 33 female students since 2008/09.
Contributions to the fund are tax-deductible. The Yavapai College Foundation provides a secure website for online donations to named scholarship funds, including the Mary Alice Moulton Childcare Assistance Scholarship.
On the Yavapai College Foundation website, choose “One-Time Donation” or “Recurring Donation.” Enter a specific amount. In the “Select a Fund” box, scroll down and choose Mary Alice Moulton Childcare/Assistance Scholarship. Then scroll down and enter the Donor Information.
